The landmark unveiling of the sign featuring former Louisiana Governor and Quitman resident, Jimmie Davis along the Northeast Louisiana Music Trail will take place at 11:00am this Saturday, October 22nd. The dedication ceremony will take place at the Jimmie Davis Memorial Auditorium, located at 3189 Beech Springs Road in Quitman.
Following the ceremony a free concert will follow featuring local recording artist Hank Staples, Monty Russell and Chris Canterbury. Visitors are invited to peruse through Davis memorabilia that has been loaned by the Jackson Parish Museum and Fine Arts Association where they are on permanent display and take a look Peckerwood Hill Store and the tiny house that Davis and his 10 siblings grew up.
The North Louisiana Music Trail stretches from Shreveport to Ferriday, LA. Along the way the wonderful heritage left by music greats such as Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter, Johnny Horton, Kix Brooks, Trace Adkins, Mickey Gilley, Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Lee Lewis are celebrated.
Now the “Singing Governor” from Quitman, famous for his rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” will be a part of the iconic musical past. The Jackson Parish Tourism Board invites everyone to bring your chairs and spread your blankets on the grounds and enjoy the fine food that vendors will be offering and the fellowship of friends and neighbors as we celebrate our favorite son.
