Local prep anglers win The Bass Federation Junior State Championship

Quitman High School is fast gaining the reputation as the home of prep state champions. Last spring QHS laid claim to three LHSAA state championships with the softball, baseball and golf programs winning titles. Now another program at Quitman High has climbed to the top in Louisiana high school sports competition as Jake Vail and Jaxon Cheatwood have won The Bass Federation (TBF) Junior Angling State Championship that was held Saturday, March 2nd, on Caney Lake. 

The two man team, who compete on the Northeast Louisiana High School Anglers Fishing Tournament Circuit, took the title by landing four fish that weighed a total of 10 pounds 13 ounces that included a Big Bass Award winning lunker that checked in at 6.07 lbs. 

By virtue of their top finish the pair have qualifed to fish the TBF Junior World Championship that will be held in Pierre, South Dakota at Lake Oahe from July 30–31 and August 1, 2025.

Additional QHS anglers that competed in the TBF junior state championship was Shepard Norred and Jackson Ables, (13th place), Andrew Brown and Christopher Rasberry (15th place) and Chance Lemoine and Jaxen Culpepper.
