“Sizzle Sisters”
Maci Halbrook – GCA, Clara Robinson – QHS, Miriam Schuler – WHS, Zyla Beaubouef – WHS,
Ten Jackson Parish 4-H youth members traveled to Alexandria on March 12th to compete in the State 4-H Food Challenge with the four member team “Sizzle Sister” comprised of Zyla Beaubouef and Miriam Shuler from Weston High School, Maci Halbrook of Grace Christian Academy and Clara Robinson from Quitman High School receiving State Finalist designation.
Also competing in Division I from Jackson Parish was the two person team of Quin Carpenter – GCA and Hudson Hurt – QHS and in Division III the team of Brogan Carpenter – GCA, Evie Carpenter – QHS, Evan Robinson – QHS, Aiden Vo – QHS.
Each team showcased their skills by creating a dish using a secret ingredient and purchasing groceries on a budget from the “pantry” then plating and presenting their dish to a panel of judges. During their presentation, each team had to include food safety guidelines, nutritional information, and instructions for creating their dish. This competition requires outside the box thinking as well as teamwork all while racing the clock to plan, prep, cook, and clean in the allotted 40 minutes.
“Shoutout to the parents that have brought these teams to practice and trekked to Alexandria and spent their day supporting our teams and helping get those dishes washed. We couldn’t participate in these type competitions without the amazing parents that help us out” – Kristina Bourgeous, Jackson Parish 4-H Director
