In honor of March being National Reading Month, the Jackson Federation of Teachers and School Employees (JFT-SE) donated 500 books to Jackson Parish Elementary and Middle Schools. The Federation’s local chapter President, Brenda Simmons and LFT Representative, Charlotte Crawley, also visited with Jackson Parish School Board Members and Superintendent David Claxton.
“We hope these books will promote reading and student literacy in our schools,” said Simmons. “The students of Jackson Parish are our future. The love of reading is a gift we can give a child that will last a lifetime.
In addition to the books that were presented to Jonesboro-Hodge Elementary, Jonesboro-Hodge Middle School, Quitman High and Weston High, students also received a supply of customizable book plates, book markers and masks.
