JHHS boys win district 1-2A track meet, Girls place 2nd – District 2B meet today

Jonesboro-Hodge claimed the district 1-2A boys track and field title while the girls finished as runner-up in the meet that was run on Tuesday at Lakeside High School in Sibley. In regard to individual honors it was a clean sweep for JHHS as DeTrevien Bowie was named MVP of the boys division while both Xabrianna Jackson and Zymea Hoggro were named co-MVP in girls competition. No team or individual results were available as of press time and will be posted in the Sunday edition

District 2B meet on Wednesday: Six days ago Quitman and Weston High School competed in the Choudrant Invitational. Today they return to the Choudrant High track but this time it is for the district 2B track and field title. Field events are slated to begin at 3:00 pm while the track events will start around 5:30pm. Jonesboro-Hodge traveled to Lakeside (Sibley) yesterday, April 20th, for the district 1-2A meet. 

Choudrant Invitational (4/15): Four Jackson Parish thinclads won gold medals at the Choudrant Invitational ran on April 15th. Podium placers in team competition was Quitman finishing in second in girls competition and third in boys. The individual winners were Briley Peterson (high jump) and Lakerria Austin (100M hurdles) from Weston along with Hunter Folks (Pole Vault) and Maddie Grace Giddens (300M hurdles).

Second place winners from Quitman were: Bethany Leach (triple jump), Janice Pittman (javelin), Faith Odom (1600m), Bailey Keys (shot put). Also taking silver medals were the 4×200 meter relay team of Grace Sharplin, Ansley Folks, Clara Womack and Bethany Leach and the 4×400 meter relay quartet of Sharplin, Summer Grillette, Odom and Emma Carter. Jalexia Clariday finished second in the shot put for Weston and also took third in the discus. 

Additional bronze medal winners from Weston was Riley McBride (shot put) and Dillon Pardue (3200M) while Quitman had Womack (Pole Vault), Leach (Long Jump) and Odom (800m). The 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams from Quitman comprised of John Pabaya, Ty Simonelli, Harley Brown and Jamall Johnson also won third place.
