The Jackson Parish Cleanup Committee would like to thank the entire parish for their participation in the June 12, 2021, cleanup event. All seven Jackson Parish Police Jury districts were represented with Districts 3 and 6 finishing in a tie for first place in the district division. Hodge had a narrow victory over Quitman to win for the cleanest municipality.
The Committee’s long-term plans are be to have judging categories consisting of:
1. Cleanliness – Fence lines, Ditches, Driveways
2. Attention to detail – Sidewalks, Public buildings, Recreation areas
3. Visual Appeal – Yard art/shrubs, Trees, Flower beds
4. Disabled automobiles
Since this was our first parish-wide event, the judges only used the first two categories, but it won’t be long until we are ready to have continued events comprising of all four.
Districts and municipalities were judged solely on the total exterior appearance of their areas as viewed from the roads. General upkeep of the properties and roadways was paramount. Factors included the overall appearance, tidiness, and neatness of the properties viewed. Walkways and driveways were reviewed for general cleanliness as well as for being clear of safety issues, dirt, and other debris.
