The countdown has started, currently sitting at T-Minus 32 days and counting until Saturday, August 28th when Jonesboro-Hodge returns to the “Bayou Jamb” played at Malone Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) where they will play traditional opponent St. Frederick High School.
J-H will once again compete in district 1-2A along with D’Arbonne Woods, Lakeside and North Caddo. With two of the three district contests to be played at Caldwell-Peacock stadium the hope is to finally break through for a title after four consecutive second place finishes, despite losing only one district contest each year. Under the direction of head coach Terrance Blankenship who is entering his ninth year at the helm the Tigers face a daunting, pre district schedule that will see JHHS take to the road for four of their six contests.
The Tigers will open the season by traveling to their oldest and most fierce rival Winnfield to continue a series that began over a hundred years ago. Next J-H will become the Class 2A only team in the LHSAA to host a Class 5A school when West Ouachita visits in the regular season home opener. A long ride to Vidalia follows before Class A power Logansport comes to town in week four.
A road trip to Class 3A North Webster (Springhill) follows before the Tigers trek to Bunkie, which is the sight of what is considered the greatest game ever played in Jonesboro-Hodge history. That was the unbelievable 32-28 last second, state semi-final victory in 1987 during the years of the forever remembered “three-peat”.
Homecoming, which will also be the district 1-2A opener against D’Arbonne Woods, will follow on October 22 before the Tigers travel to North Caddo in what is expected to be the defacto district championship title game. The Tigers will close their regular season out with a home contest against Lakeside.
