It just goes to show that sometimes you get rewarded when you trying to do a good deed. Eli Walker and Pete Simonelli play baseball for Quitman High and wanted to show their support for their fellow spring sport athletes by coming up with the entry fee (no small task for a high schooler) and entered into the 3rd annual QHS Two-Man Softball Scramble.
As is apparent now, they are excellent golfers as well. This is evidenced by their Championship Flight winning score of 7-under par (65) over the Jackson Parish Golf Course layout. The winning total was one better than Tylor Pardue and Richard Hooper and by two over third place finishers Hunter Alexander and Cason Womack.
Clay and Lee won the first flight on a scorecard playoff after they and the team of Joey Pender and Eddie Langston both finished with a 3-under 69. Tommy Smith and Michael finished two strokes back to grab third. In the second flight it was the Deal’s (Cam & Bryn) over the Dye’s (Johnny & Jermey) in another scorecard playoff after both teams carded 3-over par scores of 75. Hunter and Robbie shot a 76 to take third in another scorecard playoff with Davis and Leach.
“I would like to thank everyone who turned out to support our team,” said QHS head softball coach Justin Dodson.
Expectations for state title considerations are high for the 2021-22 softball season after QHS reached the semi-finals of Class B this past spring and returns virtually the entire roster.
