In the past when most people spoke to Jonesboro Police Chief James Harris, they would simply call him as “Spike.” Now you can call him “Doctor.” That is because the enthusiastic public servant has recently earned a Doctorate Degree in Leadership Management in Organizational Development.
“Working toward this degree has caused many sleepless nights but in the end it was worth it,” said Harris. “I want to especially give thanks to the officers in our department, whose skill and ability to handle things when I could have possibly been required to be called out if they weren’t as competent as they are, allowed me to spend the necessary time it took top complete this task.”
Harris graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1987 before joining the Marine Corp where he became a Golden Gloves boxing champion and was inducted into the Military Boxing Hall of Fame. Ever aspiring to better himself, since being elected as Chief of Police for the Town of Jonesboro in 2015, Harris has earned a BA in Criminal Justice, a Master’s in Business Administration and now his Doctorate Degree, all through taking online classes from the University of Phoenix.
