Town of Chatham to buy New Hope/St. Clair Water System

The Town of Chatham has become more involved in the business of drinking water transmission and distribution. This is result of the action taken by the Town Council during their regular monthly meeting held on August 10th at the Chatham Town Hall.

The meeting started with the Council agreeing to move forward with the sale of town property, located at 6357 Hwy 34. Then Toni Malone, Marvin Davis, Laverne Mixon, Sue Proffer and Mike Wilson unanimously agreed to adopt Resolution 2021-14 that allowed Chatham Mayor, Gregory Harris, the authority to sign all documents pertaining to the purchase of the New Hope / St. Clair Water System.

Brenda Williams, John Mize, Dwight and Judy Cooper, who were visitors in attendance, then witnessed Resolution 2021-15 be approved which set the 2021 property tax millage at 7.41 mils. The meeting was adjourned after financial statements were reviewed and a retirement plan by Equitable Inc. was presented with expectations of it being discussed at the September meeting.
