Whether you agree with the Jackson Parish Recreation Board or not regarding their desire to increase the monthly dues at the Golf Course you have to give them credit for examining every possible option before any decision will be made.

During their regularly scheduled monthly meeting held at the Jackson Parish Golf Course Banquet Room on Monday, August 16th, the board once again tabled any action until more information is received from Ms. Rebecca Williams, golf course manager.

This came after Ricky Cash, Jeff Hairston,. Brandon Lamkin, Rodney Potts, Sullivan Stevens and Chris Womack heard Jackson Parish Recreation Director Tommy Smith offer several possible options and timetables on how the fees could be raised and Wilda Smith gave a public comment on the issue.

Mrs. Smith commented on how beautiful the golf course looked and stated that she would love to see a lot of females playing and participating on the course. She also asked that the board give some consideration to women who are widows and want to play but can’t spend the proposed elevated monthly dues.

Smith then took the floor to give the board updates on some of the ongoing programs at the sports complex including all-star tournaments and Fall programs. Included was information on the archery/shooting range where the 1st Annual Stephen Morgan Memorial Archery Shoot is scheduled for September 18th.

After speaking further on the golf course including membership, banquet rentals, tournaments and lease for fairway mower he presented various options for raising golf course fees. 1st option – starting April 1st, 2022 monthly dues go up to $65 with the option of paying $600 for the next 12 months, 2nd option – starting January 1, 2022 monthly dues go up to $60 and out of parish go up to $70, option 3 – starting January 1, 2022 monthly dues go up to $65, out of parish $75. The board discussed giving senior citizens a discount similar to the veteran discount.

President Brent Barnett was authorized to represent the board and execute any and all documents relating to the Weyerhaeuser Company land purchase and different ideas on how to fix the spillway at the golf course was discussed.

Next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 20, 2021 at 6:00p.m. in the Jackson Parish Golf Course Banquet Room.
