Ladies of the Lake sponsor “Paddling for the Cure” and BBQ lunch for “First Responders”

One of Jackson Parish’s best assets is also a group of some of the most selfless people you would ever want to me. This was proven once again this past week when the “Ladies of the Lake, ” a group of friends and neighbors of Caney Lake that bless the community by giving back, hosted PADDLING FOR THE CURE this Saturday, September 11th at Laine’s Landing, located off Hwy 4. on Caney Lake.

The event that consisted of paddleboat and kayak races as well as all kinds of different activities is a perfect example of the kind of work the “Ladies” do as 100% of the proceeds earned went to the LA Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen.

Just two days prior these special ladies were at it again. This time the spent all Thursday morning supplying over 60 BBQ lunches to First Responders from all over the parish. Another example of how Jackson Parish is blessed to have this charitable group among our midst is earlier this summer when they helped with the “Beautification of Main Street” effort by hanging flower baskets up along Jimmie Davis Blvd and helping with the cleaning of the middle portion of the street.

NOTE: As editor/publisher of the Jackson Parish Journal I would like to compliment the “Ladies of the Lake” for the work they do. I know I speak for everyone they have touched when I say I give you my sincere thanks for caring about our parish and the people in it. – Ben Ledbetter
