Weston Jr. High boys and girls take wins at Claiborne Christian Tourney

There are what could be described as some “unwritten rules” that a coach follows in respect to filling out a schedule. As example, the Homecoming opponent is usually a weak team. Another is in regard to basketball tournaments it is a “given” for a coach to try and give the home fans the best opportunity a chance to see their team win.

Either the coaches at Claiborne Christian don’t subscribe to that theory or they made a serious blunder in judgement by pitting their squads against Weston in their tournament played this past Friday night. In fairness to the Crusaders braintrust maybe they were going on what they saw earlier in the season when both WJH squads were still finding their way. They should have gotten an update……

Adding another page to what has turned out to be a remarkable turnaround story of the Weston Junior High basketball season, especially for the girls team, WJH swept Claiborne Christian by scores of 15-11 in the girls game and 31-6 in boys action. The victories continued the success both teams have had in September where they have only dropped one game each.

Weston 15 Claiborne Christian 11: (girls) It kind of makes one wonder what head coach Jennifer Tolar told her girls at the half. Whatever she said was brilliant as Carly Griffin scored six points, JaKayla Fourd added a free throw and Weston held Claiborne Christian scoreless in the pivotal third quarter. The result was the erasing an 8-4 deficit and to take an 11-8 lead into the final frame that Weston made hold up. Griffin led WJH with 8 points, followed by four from Carolynn Waters. Abby Martindale also added a basket to go with the point scored by Fourd.
