THE JACKSON PARISH MUSEUM & FINE ARTS MEETING MINUTES
September 20, 2021

The Jackson Parish Museum and Fine Arts September meeting was called to order by President Barbara Johnson. Roll Call by acting secretary Wilda Smith stating a quorum established. Invocation offered by Wilda Smith and pledge by Barbara Johnson.

President Barbara Johnson introduced Melinda Garrett who will be sworn in and become a member of the board.

Motion Mary Hoover second Mark Culpepper approving minutes of April 2021. Motion carried.

President Barbara Johnson stated that we had received a great response on memberships. She also requested thoughts and ideas that we could do to draw the attention to the museum. Some of the suggestions to consider was consider decorating the building for Christmas, contacting teachers who are teaching Louisiana history. inviting them to visit the museum in hopes of having them bring their students at a later time. Possibility of even serving hot chocolate the day of the Christmas parade in front of the museum and handing out flyers with information relative to the museum. No
Action taken.

The board discussed a permanent date for the monthly museum meeting. Motion by Wilda Smith seconded Mary Hoover that the third Monday of the month at 4 PM for the monthly meeting. Motion carried.

Barbara Johnson then informs the board that Mark Culpepper had offered his resignation as secretary. She then open the floor for nominations for secretary. Motion Mark Culpepper second Mary Hoover to elect Wilda Smith to serve as secretary/ treasurer of the museum board. Motion carried

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Aldermen will accept the highest bid for each item, provided that the minimum bid is met or exceeded, with the Town of Jonesboro being entitled to reject any and all bids forany reason.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the Town of Jonesboro is specifically authorized to sign, on behalf of the Town of Jonesboro, any needed bill of sale or vehicle title necessary to convey any of these surplus items to the highest bidder for cash whose bid is accepted.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that each bidder shall be notified within four (4) days at the telephone number provided in the written bid, that the bid submitted has been accepted and must within 48 hours thereafter pay to the Town of Jonesboro the amount of the winning bid.

Jackson Parish Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes
September 15. 2021

The meeting of the Jackson Parish Chamber of Commerce was called to order by Vice President Darrell Avery. The invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randy Layfield
Board Members present: Dean Rushing, Johnny Horton, Randy Layfield, John Williams, Clay Carroll, Darrell Avery, Yumeaka Washington and Wilda Smith.

Board Members absent: Carla Smith. Andrea Malone, Karen Tolar, Glen Kirkland

Motion made by Clay Carroll and second Randy Layfield approving the minutes of August 2021. Motion carried.

The financial report was presented by Wilda Smith. Motion to approve by Johnny Horton and second John Williams. Motion carried.

Wilda shared with the group that the chamber had received a letter of appreciation from Jonesboro Hodge high school for the donation in Judie ‘s memory/

Motion Johnny Horton second Yumeaka Washington to present a community service award to a senior from HR school 2022. Motion carried.

Vice president Darrell Avery appointed Randy Layfield as chairman of the CSI committee working with Yumeaka Washington and John Williams.

Other Discussions:

Wilda Smith and Johnny Horton would contact the mayor’s office for a meeting. Discussions on the upcoming events and moving forward with Christmas lights.
Yumeaka Washington would check with tourism Board about sponsoring a band to play the day of the festival. Wilda smith would send letter requesting donation for fireworks.

Motion Johnny Horton second Yumeaka Washington to have the October meeting at Johnny’s Pizza.

Motion Clay Carroll second by Randy Layfield to adjourn. Motion carried
