Atkins named LA Sportsline “Defensive Player of the Week”

JHHS sophomore, Xavier Atkins, had already burst into the local media scene when the 6’0”, 185 lb. linebacker was one of three Tigers named “Beast of the Week” by KTVE – Channel 10 following the victory over West Ouachita in week two. His incredible exploits that have been rewriting school defensive records weekly have now been recognized state wide as well. This is evidenced by Atkins being named LA  “Defensive Player of the Week” following the week four victory over Logansport on September 24th.

Atkins was nominated for the statewide award after finishing the game with 17 individual stops and a new school record 22 total tackles. The new record broke the old mark of 20 that Atkins had tied the week before, where his 19 individual stops also tied a school record. His mind boggling statistics earned Atkins 34 of the 41 votes cast for the five nominated defensive players from all over the state by pollsters of the LA Sportsline.
