Tigers gets a vote in latest LSWA poll

Jonesboro-Hodge has received a vote in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA)weekly football poll. True, it was only one vote but that is one more than was received the week before and the first time the Tigers have been listed in a LSWA poll in several years.

While he was appreciative of the lone sportswriter who put JHHS on a ballot, Tiger head coach Terrance Blankenship was not impressed.

“I don’t really look at the polls as they don’t really mean anything,” said Blankenship. “What I do look at is the power rankings as they determine playoff positions but it is way to early to even be looking at those as well.”

For the record, by virtue of the thrilling 34-32 victory over Class 3A North Webster, the Tigers jumped from #13 to #9 in the latest Class 2A power rankings for non-select schools as provided by Geauxpreps.com and to #15 in the combined (select/non-select) rankings.

Many High leap frogged Lafayette Christian, who suffered their first loss of the year, to take over the top spot in the week 5 poll. Other North Louisiana schools listed in Class 2A was Mangham at #5, General Trass (Lake Providence) at #9 and North Caddo at #10.

In other classifications, Ruston was at #8 in Class 5A, Neville was 2nd in Class 4A, Sterlington and Union Parish were #3 and #6 in Class 3A, Ouachita Christian was #1 in Class A with Homer, Haynesville and Oak Grove holding down the 4th, 6th and 7th spots.
