As impressive as Jonesboro-Hodge’s 51-0 victory over Bunkie was it obviously didn’t carry any weight among the Louisiana Sports Writers Association voters as the Tigers remained with only one vote in the Week 6 poll. Fortunately, among the rankings that matter, the Tigers jumped two spots to #7 according to the latest Geauxpreps.com listing.
“As I stated before it is way too early to be looking at rankings as there is a lot of football left to be played,” said Tiger head coach Terrance Blankenship. “Still it is good that we are up there in the power rankings as if continue to take care of business then we will get a good seeding in the playoffs.”
There are tremendous differences this week in the AA poll vs power rankings. Many High is ranked #1 in the LSWA poll but only #3 in power points. Amite is #1 in the power rankings but listed at #4 by the LSWA. In one of the biggest discrepancies, other than how JHHS is listed on both lists is with Avoyelles High, who carries a #2 power ranking but isn’t even listed in the top ten in the LSWA poll.
It must be noted also that the LSWA poll takes into consideration both “select” and “non select” schools while the power ranking are for only the “non-select” schools. In the combined power rankings, which would have no bearing on the playoff seedings as “select” schools and “non select” school play in seperate playoffs, Jonesboro-Hodge is listed at #13.
