
Despite playing with a depleted roster due to half the team still playing football the shorthanded Tigers won their season opener by taking down fellow Jackso Parish foe Quitman by a 73-61 margin. While no individual statistics were available at press time Ajay Tew and Savantez Phillips led the way for the Tigers. The fifth straight loss by the Wolverines dropped their record to 5-7 on the year.
In girls action, the Lady Wolverines used a strong full court press to force several third quarter turnovers which led to the 43-35 victory over their larger Jackson Parish opponent. The loss dropped J-H under first year head coach Kiyyah Deloney to 1-4 in the early going while Quitman evend their slate to 6-6 after their third win in the last four games.
Before the varsity games there was a girls and boys junior varsity contest that was two quarters each in length. The JH boys won by a 13-11 score while the Quitman girls won 13-5.
In other area action the Saline girls team stunned Calvin by a 43-39 margin giving the Lady Bobcats their second straight victory after opening the year by losing their first nine. The boys fell to 4-8 overall when they came up just one point short in the 66-65 loss to powerful Calvin who remained undefeated and extended their season opening winning streak to 11 games.
