Tiger trio relish week long I-20 All-Star Bowl Game experience

For Jonesboro-Hodge’s dynamic duo of Tydre Malone and Devontae Mozee every day brought them something new to remember. It was “old hat” for Tiger head coach Terrance Blankenship. Regardless of how little or how much experience the trio had with the affairs each relished in the week long of activities leading up to the I-20 All-Star Bowl game that is to be played today.

The fifth annual game that pits the top senior stars from northeast Louisiana against those from the northwest portion of the state kicks off at 2:00pm at “Hoss” Garrett field on the campus of Ruston High School.I-20 bowl logo

The week of events started on Tuesday with two practices at Neville High School in Monroe sandwiched around a visit to Southern Escape in Monroe where the players got to enjoy competing against each other in fun and games.

On Wednesday the players started the day by visiting the Presbyterian Church in Monroe and then going to the Veteran’s Home on Hwy 165 before three hours of practice at Ouachita Christian High School. Thursday found the All-Stars practicing at Wossman High in Monroe before assisting in a kid’s camp. On Friday a walk through was had at Ouachita High School followed by a banquet dinner setting up the All-Star Fest “meet and greet” at the Surge Entertainment location in West Monroe and a Bowling Tournament Saturday morning.

“It has been fun to rub shoulders with the top coaches and players from our area this week and to be with my two guys for another week of football,” said Blankenship, who led the Tigers to a Class AA state semi-final berth. “I am especially happy that Tydre and Devontae has had the opportunity to enjoy the experience.”

Malone, who will wear the #16 jersey, will be one of two quarterbacks for the East squad while Mozee will sport his familiar #3 in the defensive backfield and return punts. Blankenship is an offensive backfield coach on the squad.
