Friday finds area preps playing final games before district schedule begins

Jackson Parish prep hoop teams will play their final tune-ups this Friday before the district season begins.  Neighboring schools, Dodson and Saline, get a jump start on district play with as they square off in a district 1B tilt in Dodson that is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm.

Quitman (13-12) is the only parish school that will be at home as they host hapless Family Community Christian School out of Winnsboro who has struggled to a 2-17 overall record and a last place ranking in Division V.

Jonesboro-Hodge and Weston will both trek above Interstate 20 for their last contests before beginning the “second season.” headed in different directions. The Tigers (7-4), who have only had the chance to play twice since the calendar flipped to the new year, will hope to reverse a season worst two game skid when they travel to Class C Summerfield, who is sitting with an uncharacteristic 10-14 record.

Meanwhile, Weston (11-12) will look to continue their 2022 surge that has seen them win five of their last six games and climb ever so close to the .500 mark for the first time all year when they make the long trip to Forest who has won only 6 of 18 this season.

In girls action Saline (6-18) enters district play on a six-game losing streak but will be favored to take the 1B opener against Dodson who is still winless on the year after 21 attempts. Still perfect for 2022 after three games, Quitman puts their 16-8 record on the line against 13-6 FCCS in what looks to be a quality pre district test.

Jonesboro-Hodge is now 2-0 under new head coach Kris Cash but still has only a 4-11 record to show for the season. Summefield expects to play the “rude host” role after compiling a fine 20-10 record on the year. Weston (14-8) should have no trouble in continuing their “perfect for January” run and season tying best five game winning streak when they play 1-19 Forest.
