Jackson Parish schools well represented at Louisiana State BETA Convention

BETA Club members from Jonesboro-Hodge, Quitman and Weston High Schools went to Baton Rouge last week for the Louisiana State BETA Convention. Participants from the three schools represented Jackson Parish in a multitude of competition areas with several qualifying for the National BETA Competition that will be held in Nashville, TN in July after finishing in the top five of their category. 

National Convention Qualifiers 

First Place Winners: 

Madison Taylor (QHS) – Color Photography in Division 1
Cadence Kinman (WHS) – Mixed Media in Division 2

Second Place Winners:

Hannah McDowell (WHS) – Sculpture in Division 2

Third Place Winners: 

T’ara Tyler (JHHS) – Black and White Photography in Division I 
Mattie Claire Beaubouef (WHS) – Service Learning Showcase in Division 2 
Camden Flynn (WHS) – Digital Art in Division 2

Fourth Place Winners:

Raelynn Shell (WHS) – Recyclable Art in Division 1
Mattie Claire Beaubouef (WHS) – Recyclable Art in Division 2

Fifth Place Winners:

Tyriana Sly (JHHS) – Mixed Media in Division 2

Team Competition:

Quitman High School – 4th Place in Community Service Hours

“Our club has assisted in cleaning the museum in Jonesboro, handing out goodies at Forest Haven’s “Forest Fest”, assisting with decorating downtown for Christmas, our yearly club Christmas food drive project, and volunteering at the Veteran’s Day program that is hosted by the Police Jury.  We have several events coming in March and April where our Betas will log more service hours. The National Beta Motto is “Let us lead by serving others.” As their sponsor, I am very proud of their commitments to service and their community.” – Niki St. Clair
