JHHS gets “goose egged”

It is the season when you are supposed to enjoy receiving eggs. That’s not true when it is “goose eggs” you are getting. It was the weekend that wasn’t for both the JHHS baseball and softball teams who got “ten run ruled” in each of the five games played, three in baseball and two in softball. About the only difference was the boys games were district contests and the girls weren’t.

For those not familiar with the “goose egg” analogy it means that you didn’t score a run. That happened in four of the five games played, twice each to the boys and girls squads. To make matters worse in the Thursday contests (JHHS vs Lakeside, JHHS vs Saline) neither the baseball nor softball team got a hit either.

In the baseballers opener against Lakeside, who secured the district 1-2A title with the three-game sweep of the Tigers, all nine batters J-H sent to the plate struck out in the 19-0, three inning loss. In the other two games played on Friday, the Tigers fell 14-1 and 20-0 to finish district play with an 0-9 record and a 134-20 run scored deficit. JHHS ends the regular season with a 3-14 record and as result of their #38 ranking, unlikely to make the Class AA playoffs.

For the softballers, the picture is even worse. After dropping 10-0 against Lakeview, the Lady Tigers got no hit by Saline in a 15-0 loss which put the season record at 1-13 on the year.. With a #40 ranking, they too are on the outside looking in regarding the Class AA playoffs
