Two weeks ago Weston took a rip to the field of dreams. This Saturday they will take to the road again in an attempt to make their dreams come true. Thanks to their 9-1 thrashing of Holden in the regionals they will now travel to #4 Converse for a quarterfinal matchup with the winner advancing to the Class B state tournament.
Kaden Shirley got two hits which is one more than he gave up in six innings of work to help #5 Weston cruise past #12 Holden in the contest played in their final home game of the year. Bryce Zehr scored three runs and reached base three times to lead the offensethat racked up seven hits and coaxed three walks. The effort was also helped by four Holden errors including on Zehr’s leadoff at bat that ended giving Weston a 1-0 lead.
The Wolves would stretch the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third after Zehr hit a single, Caleb Waters got hit by a pitch and Cooper Delaney reached on another Holden miscue that scored Zehr. Tayt Henderson’s groundout scored Waters.
The Wolves put the game away with three more in the bottom of the fourth when Braden Theriot walked Colton Blundell reached on an error and Shirley singled to load the bases. Zehr ground out to second to plate one run which was followed by Waters ripping a double to right center to add two more. Doubles by Theriot and Zehr along with singles by Shirley and Davis Tolar accounted for the final three runs.
