Jackson Parish Library Board to discuss joining Green Gold System

Have you ever went to the either the Jonesboro or Chatham branch of the Jackson Parish Library (JPL)and looked around but couldn’t find what you wanted. If that has happened you might have left thinking “if I was in a larger city their library would have what I wanted.”

Maybe that is correct and maybe it isn’t, but regardless, the Jackson Parish Library Board (JPLB) might just have found a solution to your dilemma. In their never-ending endeavor to give residents of Jackson Parish the best resources available the JPLB will discuss joining the Green Gold Library System. If what they have discovered pans out to be correct, then soon, despite the JPL being a small rural based library, they will have access to the same resources as many parish libraries across north Louisiana.

The Green Gold Library System is a borrowing and lending network between libraries. This allows library patrons native to one library system to borrow copies of materials not found in their home library. If the decision is made to join then the JPL would be a member in the system along with Libraries in the following parishes: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, De Soto, Grant, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine Webster and Winn.

In additional action, the board that will meet in the McBride Room of the Jonesboro Branch Library at 4:30pm on Monday, May 16th, will consider hiring two part time workers for the summer. They will also vote to authorize Director Floyd Knox and two bookmobile staff members to attend the Association
of Bookmobile and Outreach Services conference in Scottsdale, AZ on October 4-6, 2022. Approving April financial and statistical reports as well as hear updates on current projects will close out the session.

The public is invited to attend and in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you need special assistance, please contact Floyd Knox at (318) 259-5697.
