No matter what you are trying to buy, it costs more these days. The Jackson Parish Recreation Board had to deal with that fact at their monthly meeting that was held in the Banquet Room of the Jackson Parish Golf Course Clubhouse on Monday.
At issue was items that board members Brent Barnett, Ricky Cash, Jeff Hairston, Brandon Lamkin,
Rodney Potts, Sullivan Stevens and Chris Womack had agreed to purchase last month only to find out the cost of each had risen by a large margin.
As result new decisions were made as follows:
1. Flag Poles – At the last meeting the board voted to purchase from Carrot-Top Industries Inc. two 25ft flagpoles at $1,610.00 each and one 30ft flagpole at $2,025.00 for the entryway at the JPRD sports complex but the price increased to $4,849.98 total for the two 25ft poles and $3,204.99 for the 30ft poles As result the board rescinded the vote to purchase from Carrot-Top Industries and decided to go with Liberty Flagpoles for a total of $5,976 for all three.
2. Playground Addition at Sports Complex – This is playground equipment geared toward special needs children at the JRPD sports complex that was voted on to be purchase at the last meeting but the price went from $19,810.00 to $20,995.00. The board voted to pay the additional amount charged. Jonesboro State Bank / Pledge 10 has already donated $15,000.00 toward this project.
3. Gazebo – At the last meeting the board selected an outdoor Gazebo for the Jackson Parish Golf Course and the vote was to not pay more than $10,000.00. The price has now increased to $15,264.30 so the purchase decision was tabled in order that more quotes can be obtained.
In other business, the minutes and financials from the April meeting was approved and JPRD Director Tommy Smith gave updates on the archery and summer league softball/baseball programs going on.
