On what would have been his 27th birthday, a celebration for Addarren “Lil Snupe” Ross will be held beginning a 4:00 on Saturday, June 11th at the Fairgrounds, located at 341 Cedar Street in Jonesboro. There is no admission charged for the event that will feature music by DJ’s, food by vendors, inflated bounce houses games and even a fireworks show.
“Lil Snupe” Day, now in it’s ninth year, is in honor of the Jonesboro teen, whose rap music and unique sound had him in 2013 on a rapid accent to becoming a video and recording star. Tragically, the young man who just signed a national recording deal with the Meek Mill’s Dream Chasers label was senselessly murdered in Winnfield the result of an argument that broke out at a friends apartment.
The event takes place despite objections made by several public officials, who had recommended the event be postponed until a later date due to what was referred to as a heightened sense of turmoil in the town.
“It is important that we remember Lil Snupe,” said Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson, who gave the approval for the event to go ahead as planned. “I feel confident that with the security firm that the promoter is bringing and our own police presence that any possible issues should be able to be handled.”
