Under the tutelage of Cheer Sponsor, Elizabeth Womack and Cheer Coach, Jordyn Wallis, twenty-eight (28) young ladies from the Quitman High and Junior High Cheerleading Squads took part in the prestigious Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Camp held last week on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM).
The UCA was founded in 1974 to provide the highest quality educational training for cheerleaders with the goal of incorporating high level skills with traditional crowd leading. Today it is the largest cheerleading camp company in the world and hosts regional and national championship competitions.
Continuing the long tradition of excellence and championship quality performances the QHS squad racked up several team and individual awards. This included taking first place in team competition in three categories and winning blue ribbons in two others as well as having ten individuals earn All-American status. Three other times the combined squads finished in second place.
The QHS varsity squad also won the UCA Leadership Plaque which is perhaps the highest tribute that can be given and certainly a great testament regarding the QHS coaches and team members. What this award designates is that the QHS squad is the cheerleading team that was voted by the other schools in the camp as other than their own, being the team they would most like to be on.
