
Head Coach Brandon Lamkin wanted his Jackson Parish 12U All-Stars to play in the “Warm-Up” tourney held this past weekend to get his girls ready for the competition that they will face in the District Tourney in Bossier City on the weekend of June 17-19. Judging by the way they played the competition better get ready for them.
JP12U waltzed their way to three victories in the double elimination tournament that combined with the two wins in the pool play portion of the event gave the locals a perfect 5-0 record at the end of their first experience as a team.
As reported in the Sunday, June 1st edition of the Jackson Parish Journal, the “Dandy Dozen” from Jackson Parish entered the elimination stage as the top seed after blasting Bastrop 10-0 and getting by Union Parish 6-3.
The locals were pitted against Union again in the opening round. Again they came away victorious, this time by a 3-0 margin. In the finals of the winners bracket they ran away from Rayville 14-4 setting up a rematch with Union for the championship. It was no match. JP12U made it three straight over Union this time by a 6-0 score.
JP12u 3 Union Parish 0: Brenna Lamkin turned in the pitching performance of the tournament by no-hitting Union and striking out eleven in four innings of work. Avery Watson singled and scored in the second inning and then Jade Cook and Carlynn Waters added a pair of insurance runs in the third for all the runs that would be needed.
JP12u 14 Rayville 4: Both teams scored four runs in the first inning with the difference being that after the locals tied it up in their half of the inning they continued to add ten more. One inning later the game was over via the “mercy rule.” After getting JP12U’s only hit of the game against Union in the opener, Avery Watson got two more in the first frame of this one, including a bases clearing triple, that resulted in a single game tourney best 5 RBI. Carlynn Waters, Davynee Bearden, Lily Jones and Jade Cook all scored two runs and Brenna Lamkin, Jaylin Williams, Jadyn West, Gabby Edwards, Breelyn Boone and Kinley Aldy added a run each as the locals sent 18 batters to the plate.
JP12u 6 Union Parish 0: To their credit this time around Union did manage three hits but Carlynn Waters and Brenna Lamkin still didn’t allow a run as JP12U shut out their foe for the second straight time to claim the championship. Lamkin led the way offensively as well with two hits, two RBI. and a run scored. Jayline Williams roped a triple to knock in a run and Breelyn Boone scored twice. Avery Watson also crossed home as JP12U scored five ijn the first inning to put the game away.
Watson led the team with a .714 batting average over the five games played as she got five hits in seven at bats that included a double and two triples leading to seven RBI, all team highs. Waters also came up big at the plate with four hits, one of which was the only home run hit by the team and scored a team high seven runs. Branna Lamkin was the star in the circle as gave up only hit in seven innings while striking out 16 and not allowing a run.
