Finals MVP Logan Ponder leads D5 Baseball 18U to tourney victory

Logan Ponder is the only one player from Jackson Parish on the D5 Baseball 18U team. He was also the MVP of the championship game of Play 20 Tournament held in Monroe after his gutty performance lifted his team to the tourney title.

The victory by the team that consists mainly of players from Ruston High, Choudrant High and  Ouachita Christian is especially impressive being that almost all the D5 team is 16 years old and the victory came against teams that are comprised with several college players.

For Ponder to win the MVP award was impressive especially since he was playing on basically one leg. According to his father Larry, who along with Bennie Henning and Eddie Parkman coaches the D5 squad, Ponder couldn’t even hardly walk a couple of days before the tourney.

“Truthfully, I didn’t want him to play for fear he would hurt his leg further,” said Ponder. “I left it up to him though and can’t say enough about him gutting it out and playing through the pain the entire tournament.”
