Barnie Daryl Nash
October 8, 1952 – July 17, 2022
Barnie Daryl Nash, age 69 of Jonesboro, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. Though he had a heart of gold, it was no longer able to sustain his earthly body and he was escorted to his eternal home by his Lord and Savior.
Barnie was born on October 8, 1952 to Barnie Franklin and Faye Elaine (Thornton) Nash. Known as Daryl to his family, he was the light of their lives.
Being an Eagle Scout and serving as an adult leader were two things which brought Barnie a great deal of joy, but he felt most honored to serve as his son Matthew’s scout master when he too became an Eagle Scout.
Barnie was a member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon for almost four decades, was a Sunday school teacher for many years, and served on numerous committees. He loved The Lord and loved serving him in any capacity.
He had planned to retire from his job at the Jackson Parish Correctional Facility where he had worked since its opening in 2007. Barnie had previously retired from the Jonesboro Police Department after working there for 16 years. Barnie was an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints fan and had hoped to attend games in person, but that was not to be.
Barnie is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Renee (Asken) Nash; son, Matthew Kyle Nash; brother-in-law, Rick Asken & Kitty; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and numerous co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barnie and Faye Nash; sister, Patricia Nash; and brother-in-law, Randy Asken.
A public memorial service will be held at 10 AM; Saturday, July 23, 2022 at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Bro. Randy Dark officiating and Mr. Terry Walsworth delivering the Eulogy. Friends may visit with the family in the sanctuary immediately following the memorial service. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Garden of Memories in Jonesboro, under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.
