Quitman Junior High Softball runs record to 4-0

Quitman Junior High ran their early season record to 4-0 with a pair of impressive road wins on Thursday and Friday. The junior Wolverines opened the “double dip” by waltzing past Weston 14-0 for their second victory in two days against their Jackson Parish neighbors. Traveling a little further south, QJH beat Montgomery 9-3 marking the first time this season that the junior high girls didn’t score in double figures and gave up any runs to their opponent. 

Brenna Lamkin stil hasn’t given up any runs. The QJH ace threw shutout ball in her fourth straight start to get the win. By striking out seven and allowing only two hits, Lamkin now has  K’d 24 batters in 10.2 innings and given up just five hits.

Offensively QJH has been just as impressive, culminating a .574 team batting average and scoring a total of 45 runs for an average of 11 per contest. Halle Kate Pullig and Zoee Williams is batting a perfect 1000% and has reached base in all seven of their at bats for the year.  Briley Bowers checks in with an .800 batting average  followed closely by Kinsley Ponder at .750. Lamkin and Anna Leach is hitting .600 with Jennalle Hall, Breelyn Boone and Emma toms averaging .500. 

Quitman 14 Weston 0: Eleven hits, and eight free passes led to 12 earned runs and Brenna Lamkin continued her early season mastery on the mound for her third straight shutout. The contest was called after 3 2/3 innings due to time limit.
Anna Leach (2 RS, 3 SB, RBI), Zoie Williams (2B, 2 RS, 2RBI) and Kinsley Ponder (RBI) led the offensive onslaught with two hits apiece. Briley Bowers (RS, RBI) also reached twice via a hit and a walk. Hallie Kate Pullig (2 RS, 2RBI) smashed a first inning double that scored two runs and Breelyn Boone and Avery Watson got a hit, scored a run and knocked one in. Lanee and Morgan Cheatwood chipped in with a run as did Taylor Jones and Jennalee Hall.
Lamkin, who won her third game of the season in three starts, limited Weston to just one hit while striking out 8 bringing her season total to 17 K’s and just three hits allowed. She also contributed offensively with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. Waters took the loss for Weston.
Hallie Kate Pullig got the scoring started in the first inning with a double to center field that scored Bowers and Leach. Williams and Ponder followed with singles to add two more to the total. The next inning both Cheatwood’s walked and scored on singles by Boone and Watson, who also scored to give the Wolverines an 8-0 lead after two before time was called in the half inning
The lead ballooned to 11-0 when Jones and Hall walked and both Leach and Bowers followed with two out hits. In the top of the fourth Quitman added three more when William doubled to score Pullig who had gotten hit by a pitch and then scored on Lamkin’s inside the park home run.

QJH 9 Montgomery 3: Hallie Kate Pullig got two hits including a double, scored twice, drove a run in and stole two bases to pace the offensive onslaught. Kinsley Ponder also got a pair of hits and both Briley Bowers and Emma Toms scored twice. Zoee Williams, Avery Watson and Sophia Kilebert added runs. 

Saline sweeps Castor: The Lady Bobcats operned their home portion of the season in grand style by sweeping Castor 6-2 and 6-5 on Thursday. Ally Fine got the win in the opener with Bella Blewer winning the nightcap. Adysen Breeland scored three times over the two games as did JaLynn Jiles. Fine scored twice with Kacidy Sims, Landry Peoples, Brooklyn Page-Loyd and Tinley Choateadding a run each.
