Donna Sue Spangler
April 1, 1947 – October 13, 2022

spanglerDonna Sue Kennedy Spangler, age 75, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, at home with her family after a brief battle with cancer. She was born to Rev. and Mrs. JW Kennedy on April 1st, 1947, in Jonesboro, Louisiana.

Donna is survived by her three children son Jason(Leah) Spangler; daughter, Laura Lea; son Daniel(Kelly) Spangler; grandchildren Seth(Jessi) Spangler, Avery(Calvin) Martin; Jessica Holder, Kade Holder, Amber Spangler. She is also survived by her siblings Paula Desidere, Randy(Connie) Kennedy, Rebekah(Junior) Branch, Tim(Random) Kennedy, Joy(Brian) Rankin, and Mark(Sandra) Kennedy. Brother-law Charles(Rosemary) Spangler; sister-in-law Louise Henderson, a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donna is preceded in death by her husband Doyle E. Spangler. Parents Rev. and Mrs. JW Kennedy; mother-in-law, Mrs. Odell Ashcraft; sister Jackie K Martin; and brother Tommy Kennedy.
Her passing will leave a void impossible to fill. She was a devoted wife, mother, Gran, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. She was like a second Momma to her eight younger siblings, always trying to take care of them, even in her last days. You could always count on her to help when you needed something. She would show up with food or help keep your kids. She hosted family holiday meals and wanted everyone to be there. She could make dressing just like her Momma. She was always ready to make biscuits for her boys. She loved her family and friends very much. But most importantly, she was a devoted Christian and wanted others to know Jesus. Our family will be forever thankful to God for our Momma, Gran, sister, and friend and the love we have shared.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 15th at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home.

Debra Lynn (Boyett) Short
February 22, 1957 – October 3, 2022

shortDebra Lynn (Boyett) Short, age 65, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022 in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Mrs. Short loved fishing, hunting, and camping with her husband, Weldon. She also loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and she cherished her three dogs. Gardening was her passion. Debra enjoyed having fresh vegetables and planting beautiful flowers around her home.

Survivors include her husband, Weldon A. Short; sister, Elaine Boyett Rachal (Glen); brothers, Roger Boyett (Edith), Tim Boyett; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Debra was preceded in death by her father, Wiley Allen Boyett, Jr.; mother, Gracie Louise (Dickson) (Whatley) Boyett; and brothers, Gerald Boyett and Nelson Gene Boyett.

There was a graveside service on Friday, October 14, at  the Cypress Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Hwy 505 between Gansville and Tannehill in Winn Parish, The service was under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the generosity of Mike Duvall and his family.

Serving as pallbearers were Tim Short, Ernie Short, Jay Swiney and Jeremy Swiney. Honorary pallbearer was Glen Rachal.

Jimmy Dale Tilley
May 3, 1956 – October 12, 2022

tilleyMr. Jimmy Dale Tilley, 66, of Quitman, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in Jonesboro.

Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Navy. For many years he drove big-rigs cross-country, and then worked several years as a truck driver locally. He was a hard worker, and always thought a lot of his co-workers. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He also enjoyed spending time with his amazing brother-in-law, Justin Walker. He was loved by his family and friends and he will be truly missed by all.

Survivors include Jimmy’s wife of 45-plus years, Vickie Walker Tilley; children, Brandy Tilley, Nicole Allien (Aaron), Jimmy Tilley, Jr. (Jessica); Grandchildren, Octavio, Hunter, Connor, Harly, Hadasa, Levi, Cate, Carmen, Lainey, M’Kadesh, Nia, and Imogen; sister, Jo Ann Carpenter; brothers-in-law, Buck Walker (Vicky), Glen Dale Walker, Justin Walker; sister-in-law, Gwen Smith (Johnnie); several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Tilley; mother, Eva Rae (Potts) Tilley; brothers, William Tilley, Johnny Tilley; sister, Mary Helen Tilley; father-in-law, Harold Walker; mother-in-law, Jeanette Walker.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Sweetwater Baptist Church in Quitman, Louisiana from 1:45 PM until time for the service at 3:30 PM. Bro. Wilton Wall and Bro. Stuart Toms will officiate and the burial will be at Sweetwater Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Josh Hall, Troy Fox, Spencer Best, David Tilley, Tracy Mathews, Roger Morgan, Josh Plunkett, and Barry Doner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sambo Lowrey, Octavio Tilley, Curtis Lester, Hunter Tilley, Connor Allien, Harly Tilley, Lane Plunkett, and Levi Tilley.

Mary Novis Phillips
July 10, 1929 – October 12, 2022

phillipsMary Novis Phillips, age 93 of Bienville, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in Ruston, Louisiana.

Mary loved to paint and her artwork will be on display at the visitation. She liked history and enjoyed some lively discussions on politics. She was an amateur bird-watcher and was considered by her relatives to be a trusted family advisor who always told the truth.

Survivors include her step son, Gilmer Phillips; sisters, Belva Robinson and Virginia Treadway; grandchildren, Brooke Armstrong and Kris, Lauren Pitts and Jonathan, Jeffrey Phillips, Steven Phillips, James Flores; great-grandson, Benjamin Pitts as well as many other great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Gina Phillips; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mary in death are her parents, William David and Willie Bell (Hines) Collinsworth; brothers, Harris Collinsworth, Dayton Collinsworth, David Collinsworth; sister, Hazel Hall; step son, Michael Phillips; step daughter, Itelia Phillips; grandchild, Sharon Johnson; and step grandson, Patrick Flores.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Hodge United Pentecostal Church from 11 AM until 12 noon. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon and be officiated by Bro. Jeff Stroud. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Friendship, Louisiana under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be, Chuck Blalock, Nathan Collinsworth, Noah Collinsworth, Dustin Martin, Jake Pipes and Will Treadway.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Clint Collinsworth, Kenneth Collinsworth, Lindon Collinsworth, Jodie Hall, Jeff Phillips, Steven Phillips, Kim Treadway and Rick Vogler.
