Junior high recap: Local softballers enjoy successful week

It was business as usual for Quitman Junior High while Weston won in dramatic fashion in their Thursday softball contests. The victories completed the week in undefeated fashion for both after opening the week with victories this past Tuesday. 

Quitman 9 Claiborne Christian 0: Quitman stretched their season opening undefeated streak to seven games, by blasting Claiborne Christian 9-0 for their sixth shutout of the year. Four runs in the first and third innings blew the game open as Hallie Kate Pullig and Briley Bowers led the hit parade with a double and triple respectively. Anna Leach scored three runs and stole three of the seven bases swiped by the junior girls. Pullig, London Burks, Jennalee Hall and Zoee Williams got the others. Brenna Lamkin also scored two runs and combined with Bowers for the shutout. 

Weston 12 Calvin 11: Davynee Bearden and Teegan Hall scored in the bottom of the third to lift Weston to the victory in the stirring contest that saw the lead change every time a team came to bat.  Jaylin Williams scored twice to lead the offensive onslaught that saw 11 of the 14 Lady Wolves that batted score. Carlynn Waters, Carly Jo Griffin, Anna Shows, Bearden, and Hall all reached base twice  and scored a run with Keeley Davis, Braniah Malone, Addison Faulkner,Tessa Reeves and Lily LeBlance also crossing home plate. With their third straight victory, Weston has now evened their season record at 3-3.

Upcoming schedule: Weston and Quitman will both be back in action at home on Tuesday. The Lady Wolves will host Claiborne Christian at 4:00pm hoping to stretch their home winning streak to three straight. Quitman will host their second round robin of the year with the Lady Wolverines opening action with a 3:30 contest against Choudrant and closing out the session with a 5:30 game against Montgomery.
