JHHS, Quitman boys wins pair at Quitman Tourney

By defeating Cedar Creek of Ruston 55-49 in the opening round of the Quitman Tournament played at the new Ruston Recreation Department Sports Complex on Thursday, Jonesboro-Hodge won the inaugural contest of their 2022 LHSAA boys basketball season. Then they proceeded to win a second the next night by taking down defending Class C state runner-up Calvin 55-49.

The host Wolverines also impressively double-dipped the victory column as they took down a pair of district 1-2A members in Lakeside and D’Arbonne Woods by scores of 36-35 and 53-25 to improve to 7-4 on the year. The Lady Wolverines also beat D’Arbonne Woods by an impressive 58-17 margin but while trying to upend a fourth straight school from higher classifications, narrowly fell to Class 5A Airline 55-52 to drop to 8-3 overall. 

In the tourney opener played on Thursday, the JHHS girls lost to Ouachita Christian out of Monroe 43-19 and then closed out the tourney on Friday night by falling 53-33 to Cedar Creek in Ruston. The pair of losses dropped Lady Tigers to 0-5 on the season as head coach Kris Cash still searches to replace the scoring from the losses of graduation from a year ago.
