Glenda Joyce Simpson
October 13, 1946 – December 24, 2022

simpsonGlenda Joyce Simpson, age 76, made her heavenly ascension on December 24, 2022. Glenda was blessed to be a homemaker as she loved to spend time with her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bird-watching in her free time. When she took time to kick up her feet she liked to turn on the old westerns on the television and spend a little time indulging. Her favorite time spent in life was caring for her family. Glenda took care of her grandchildren until around the age of 5 and loved her time with them and her great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles G. Simpson (Jenny); grandchildren, Shelby Simpson (Hayden), Stephanie Simpson (Kaleb Stowe), Scott Simpson; great-grandchildren, Audrey Simpson, Wyatt Simpson, Kallie Simpson, Lily Stowe, Charlie Stowe, and (arriving soon) Baby Simpson; brother, Clyde A. Gray, Jr. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Simpson; children, Kim Simpson, John Wesley Simpson II, Sue Lynn Simpson; sisters, Inez Sapp, Ila Jean Walsworth.

A graveside service is set for Tuesday, January 3, 2022, at 10:00AM in Old Saline Cemetery Bro. Steven Pardee officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

Mary Jean Gay
September 5, 1955 – December 27, 2022

gayMary Jean Gay, age 67 of Jonesboro, walked through Heaven’s gate on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. She enjoyed reading and if you were unable to find her, you would eventually find her deep in a book. Mary loved to garden and had a green thumb. She had no trouble caring for plants or bringing them back to health with a little tender loving care. She was a strong woman that never gave up on anything. Even through all of her health struggles no one ever heard her complain. She had a huge heart and was a beloved wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She met the love of her life, Walker Gay, in the fifth grade, by eighth grade they began to date and after that, they never spent any time apart. Her family was her everything. She definitely gave all herself to raising her granddaughters, as they were her entire world. Her grandsons always held a special place in her heart as well; she loved them and her family with all that she had!

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Walker Daniel Gay; children, Tarl Gay, and Wendy Gay; grandchildren, Hunter Humble, Zakk Gay, Masina Elisaia, Syndel Elisaia, Elijah Schenk; siblings, Donald Rushing, Mickey Rushing, Darlene Brady. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mary (Floyd) Rushing; father-in-law, Walker D. Gay; mother-in-law, Winnie Cora (Whittaker) Gay.

Friends visited with the family on Saturday, December 31, 2022, in the chapel of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home. Cremation followed.

Sharon Lemmons
October 27, 1949 – December 25, 2022

lemmonsMs. Sharon Lemmons was born on October 27, 1949, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 25, 2022, at 3:30am. She was preceded in death by her mom (Hazel Bates), father (Henry Lee Hall), sister (Glenda Ann Hall), maternal grandparents Lillian Henderson (Hardy Henderson), and paternal grandparents Annie Hall and Lawson Hall
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter; Dana Williams (Jason Williams) of Jonesboro, LA.; Two granddaughters; Madison Williams of Jonesboro, LA. and Katelyn Griswold (Cade Griswold) of Calhoun, LA.; Two sisters; Vickie Walker (Weston, LA) and Kim Martin (John Martin) (Jonesboro, LA.), and one brother Michael Hall of Homer, LA.; One niece Chastity Oliver (Chris Oliver) of Weston, LA.; One nephew Justin Hall of Shreveport, LA.; Two great grandchildren Hazel Griswold and Elana Griswold of Calhoun, LA. Great nephews, Devin Bradshaw (Dani) of Boston, MA, and Beaux Oliver of Weston, LA, and one great niece Grace Oliver of Weston, LA.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 29th at the Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Interment followed at the Zion’s Rest Cemetery in Weston.

Robert Earl Starkey Jr.
March 20, 1957 – December 26, 2022

starkeyRobert Earl Starkey Jr. was born on March 20, 1957, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed away on December 26, 2022, at the age of 65, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Jonesboro, Louisiana.
He was a smart, sarcastic, humorous, and hardworking man. He was dependable and would go out of his way to help people. He loved working on vehicles and small engines, woodworking, listening to music, watching old Westerns, cooking, having gatherings with friends and family, tinkering and piddling in his shed, and front porch sitting. He loved giving to people and seeing them happy.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Debra “Debbie” Dickinson Starkey, father, Robert Earl Starkey Sr., brother, John Randall “Randy” Starkey, and daughter, Cheryl Starkey.
His memory is cherished by his mother, Martha Modene Cox. His sisters and their husbands, Sue and Ronnie Pender and Connie and Robert Thompson. His children, are Robert “Restt” Starkey III, Jessica “Katie” Starkey, and Shaylon Reynolds. Grandkids, Ophelia, Laylon, Makinah, Hayley “Kit”, Matthew, Michael, Charles, and Rylan. He also had many great friends and other family members who loved him dearly.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 31st at the Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Burial followed at the Old Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home.
