Jackson Parish School Board Meeting Minutes
January 9, 2023

The Jackson Parish School Board met in regular session at 11:00 a.m. on January 9, 2023 at Jackson Parish School Board, 315 Pershing Highway, Jonesboro, La.

The following were present for roll call: Calvin Waggoner, Dennis Clary, Paulette Belton, Rick Barlow, Gerry Mims, Mary Saulters and Wade McBride

Absent: None

Dennis Clary gave the Invocation.

Rick Barlow led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The meeting was called to order by Calvin Waggoner.

Motion was made by Mary Saulters, seconded by Wade McBride and carried to approve the minutes as presented from the regularly scheduled meeting held on December 5, 2022.

Motion was made by Dennis Clary, seconded by Mary Saulters and carried to appoint Kristi Bass to serve on the Jackson Parish Sales Tax Board.

A motion was made by Mary Saulters, seconded by Wade McBride and carried to approve the 2022-2023 Pupil Progression Plan Addendum

A motion was made by Dennis Clary seconded by Mary Saulters and carried to adopt a resolution ordering and calling an election to be held on April 29, 2023 in Consolidated School District No. 1 of the Parish of Jackson to authorize the continuation of an ad valorem tax.

Dennis Clary reported to the Board on the meeting of the Executive Finance Committee held prior to the Board meeting.

A motion was made by Gerry Mims, seconded by Mary Saulters and carried to approve for payment the following bills: General Fund, Federal Program, Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education, District Maintenance bills.

Presentation of Monthly Financial Report by Kristi Bass, Business Manager.

Wade McBride presented to the Board on the meeting of the Building and Grounds Committee held prior to the Board meeting.

A motion was made by Gerry Mims, seconded by Mary Saulters and carried to accept low quote of $63,772.00 from Palomar Modular Buildings to purchase a new 12’X30’ restroom building at Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, to be paid from ESSERS II.

A motion was made by Mary Saulters seconded by Dennis Clary and carried to accept low quote of $12,975.00 from Dodson Enterprises, Inc. for the material and labor to build deck and ramp at Quitman High School on Portable Building, to be paid from Quitman District funds.

A motion was made by Gerry Mims, seconded by Paulette Belton and carried to accept low quote of $112,000.00 from Hot2Cold Heating and A/C & Electrical to purchase 25-3 Ton Heat Pumps for Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, to be paid from ESSERS II.

A motion was made by Gerry Mims, seconded by Wade McBride and carried to accept low quote of $45,000.00 from Albritton Service Company LLC. to purchase 10-3 Ton HP Systems for Weston High School, to be paid from ESSERS II. Mr. Clary abstained from this vote.

A motion was made by Gerry Mims, seconded by Rick Barlow and carried to accept low quote of $207,005.00 from Golden Remodeling for material and labor to replace roof (omitting gym) at Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, to be paid from ESSER II.

A motion was made by Dennis Clary, seconded by Gerry Mims and carried to accept low quote of $81,000.00 from Golden Remodeling for material and labor to replace cafeteria roof at Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School, to be paid from ESSER II.

A motion was made by Mary Saulters, seconded by Dennis Clary and carried to adjourn at 11:20 a.m..
