School Board extends Superintendent Claxton’s contract for two years

In a special called meeting of the Jackson Parish School Board held on Wednesday, February 15th School Superintendent David Claxton had his contract extended for two years. Originally Claxton’s contract was set to end on July 1, 2023 but now extends until June 30, 2025.

The session began with board members discussing the contract, which was the only item on the agenda. Following the unanimous decision to approve a two year extension another motion was made to extend the contract for four years but that died for lack of a second. The session ended following comments by Superintendent Claxton concerning the past, present and future plans of Jackson Parish Schools.

Entire meeting minutes can be seen in the Classifieds section.

  1. It behooves me as to why they are keeping this man as a superintendent, Jackson Parish Schools are regressing instead of progressing, this is totally sad, it is as if you only want certain schools in the district to show growth, because he is only referencing certain schools, if he wanted Jonesboro Middle School to improve, why didn’t he advance Ms. Crowe, instead of bringing in someone that does give a darn about Jackson Parish Students, she knew the job, she could do the job, she seems to have the kids at heart, why not her. He moved Ms. Copeland over to a school that needed much help in all areas (and by the way, she is doing an excellent job, that is probably not what he had expected), and then there is Jonesboro -Hodge, need I say more. and I truly love that school, it is my second love and my Alma Mater (Jackson High being my first), he has done nothing, you do not need a blueprint to diagram this for you, Claxton is not what we need here, he never was, and to extend his contract for two years, the board needs to go as well.
