There is an old saying in competition that when certain teams really stands out over others that they were like “men among boys.” After the final weigh-in of the first event of the year of the second annual ARKLA Team Tournament Trail held on Saturday, February 25th on Lake Claiborne, that could be said for a select few teams with one exception.
When referring to the third place team it was “BOYS AMONG MEN!“
There is no disrespect meant to the the pair of teens by calling them boys. Obviously when it comes to “casting and catching,” Landin Chatham who represents Weston High School on the Northeast Louisiana High School Anglers (NELAHSA) Tour and partner Hagan Carter (West Ouachita High School) are skilled well beyond their years.
Yet while most their age are lucky if they get to compete in a prep tourney that gives away trophies and plaques, this pair stepped up to the plate to fish for some “cabbage.” The didn’t come home hungry!
For the record, Chatham and Carter landed five fish that weighed a total of 17.05 lbs. including a 7.50 lb. lunker that was the 2nd largest bass caught in the tourney. Their third place finish earned them $1,200.00 or $600.00 each.
The ARKLA Team Tournament Trail consist of five events. The next tourney will be on March 25th on Lake Chicot, located on the east side of Lake Village, Arkansas. At 20 miles long, this is the largest natural lake in Arkansas and the largest oxbow lake in North America.
Future tourney’s are also slated for Cross Lake in Caddo Parish, the Ouachita River and at the combined location of Felsenthal-Ouachita River. Championship qualifiers will battle it out on Lake D’Arbonne in mid-October. At each tourney anglers will compete for a guaranteed $5,000.00 first prize and 100% payback of all money gained through entry fees.
