For the three Jackson Parish High School baseball teams this past weekend was a tough one as the three local schools went a combined 1-6 in games played. Quitman High, now with a 4-9 record, experienced the lone victory with a 4-3 win over Division III Many High in their second game of three games played in the Northwood Tournament. The Wolverines won it by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and adding a run in the bottom of the 7th to win it. In the first game, the Wolverines fell 7-0 to Class 5A Haughton and dropped an 11-1 contest to host Northwood in the tourney final.
Weston, now 7-10 on the year, lost all three played in the Live Oak tournament played in Denham Springs against some of the better baseball teams in south Louisiana. The stiff tournament schedule started with the Wolves falling 13-3 to host Live Oak, which is 16-3 on the year and ranked #6 in Division I. Their next contest, a 10-0 defeat, came at the hands of 12-5 Central – Baton Rouge, ranked #16 in Division I leading to a final game loss to Teurlings Catholic (11-6), who was the top-ranked team in Division II among “select” schools entering the tournament but now sits 3rd after losses to both Live Oak and Central-BR.
Jonesboro-Hodge almost pulled off a victory in the only game they played this weekend by rallying from a 7-3 deficit to Dodson to score 5 runs in the last two innings but fell in Dodson’s last at bat by a 9-8 score. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 2-6 while Dodson improved to 3-4 on the year.
