Jesus’ last words…
Knowing death is imminent, many people prepare a last will and testament.
Conscientious, they decide what will go to family, friends or charities. Nothing is left to chance. I remember one woman that was a member of our Florida church; she lived simply and gave no indication of affluence. What a shock to learn of large sums of money left to our church and Christian charities when she died.
Not everyone is able to leave large a inheritance. Assets are not what are most important; some must decide who will care for their young children. They will designate their choice in their will.
Jesus was concerned about the future care and safety of Mary, His mother. Jesus entrusted her into the care of disciple John.
“When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home (John 19:26-27 KJV).”
John did not shirk his duty or take the responsibility lightly. He took Mary to his home.
