Rain threatens baseball/softball schedule for rest of week

The threat of thunderstorms threaten to wash away the prep baseball and softball games that are scheduled for this Thursday – Saturday. If conditions allow, all but the Weston and JHHS softball teams will be headed west for action on Thursday highlighted by a premier matchup of top ranked teams.

The only local action slated for the rest of the week is a district softball game between host Weston High and Castor that will be played at the Jackson Parish Recreation Department Sport Complex at 4:00pm on Thursday.

In other softball action on Thursday, Quitman High has their work cut out for them as  will face their toughest competition of the year. Awaiting the Lady Wolverines, who boast a 23-5 record and is Division V’s top ranked team, is the Lady Griffins of North DeSoto, owners of a 27-2 record and ranked #1 in Division II. The defending Class 4A state champs have lost only to the two top ranked teams in Division I among select and non-select schools, St. Amant and St. Thomas More. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm. 

In baseball play, on Thursday, Jonesboro-Hodge travels to Mansfield for a district 3-2A showdown while Quitman heads to Doyline for their final district 1B matchup. All games are scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm. Weston and Quitman both travel to Maurepas this weekend to compete in the Class B Bash on Friday and Saturday. Weston will play Holden at 5:30 pm on Friday and Florien at 900 pm on Saturday. Quitman’s opponents are to be announced.
