The three local high schools in Jackson Parish look to wrap up the 2023 LHSAA baseball and softball regular season this week. Three will be preparing for the upcoming playoffs while three more will be playing for their postseason lives.
Those who have already qualified for the postseason are Quitman High in softball and Quitman High and Weston High in baseball. Both Jonesboro-Hodge High School squads and the Weston softball team on the outside looking in and needing victories to have a shot at qualifying.
Other than the JHHS baseball team who will be wrapping up district 3-2A play most games that are to be played this week will be playoff warm-up contests or attempts to improve current rankings.
Featured viewing for locals will be the Lady Wolverines of Quitman, who at #2 in Division V have the highest ranking of local teams, hosting Senior Night on Tuesday. WHS baseball will face a tremendously tough schedule as after they travel to Class 5A West Ouachita on Monday, they go to #5 among Division I “non-select” schools, Alexandria Sr. High, on Tuesday. On Thursday, WHS will host Division V’s top ranked team and former district foe Choudrant and end the week by traveling to play Sterlington, Division III’s #1 ranked team on Friday. Quitman baseball will also have a “hard row to hoe” as they travel to North DeSoto, ranked 9th in Division II and Winnfield, ranked 7th in Division III on Monday and Saturday. All three teams are already qualified for postseason play.
Desperatly needing wins are the JHHS and WHS softball teams. Currently sitting at #27 in Division IV and Division V respectively, both have an outside shot at slipping into the postseason with victories. For the JHHS baseball team sitting at #34 in Division IV, a shot at the district 3-2A title is still in play as well as a possible playoff appearance with wins in all games. Only the top 24 teams in each division qualify for the postseason.

April 11th: QHS vs Calvin (Senior Night @ 6:00pm), WHS vs St. Mary’s (4:00pm)
April 12th JHHS vs Woodlawn (Doubleheader @ 4:30pm)
Baseball:
April 10th: JHHS vs Many (5:00pm), WHS at West Ouachita (6:00pm), QHS at North DeSoto (JV, V – TBA)
April 11th: JHHS vs Wossman (DH – TBA), WHS at Alexandria Sr. High (5:00pm)
April 13th: JHHS vs Red River (5:30pm) , WHS vs Choudrant (6:00pm)
April 14th: JHHS at Mansfield (TBA), WHS at Sterlington
April 15th: QHS at Winnfield (2:00pm)
