Johnny grew up in Readheimer, LA where he helped his Paw in the watermelon fields a little bit but played a lot. Johnny, his brother, sister and cousins and neighbors spent their childhood climbing trees, swimming in the creek, hunting the woods and roaming the countryside. At a very early age Johnny developed a love for hunting with a good dog. As most of you know, he never got over that.
After Johnny graduated high school, he helped his Paw and Uncle Doil with odd jobs like painting Saline School, hauling pulpwood, and even worked at the sawmill for a couple hours before deciding to go to trade school in Natchitoches Louisiana. He worked part time for Marion Smith at Smith’s Jewelry. In September 1966, he earned a certificate to be a watchmaker. He then began to work full-time for Mr. Smith.
In January of 1966, Johnny met the love of his life. He and Sue married on August 19, 1966. They started a lifelong journey together. Their daughter Leesa was born in April of 1968 and son John in September of 1970. After their children were born, Johnny and his family would attend a revival at Briarwood Baptist Church preached by Bro. Wayne Toms. It was during this revival that Johnny would surrender his life and Jesus Christ would become his personal Lord and Savior.
Johnny went on to raise his family, later opening Johnny’s Jewelry in Hodge, La., where he served for 54 years. He influenced so many people in 79 years of life. Countless memories were made doing what he loved- hunting with his family and friends, some of the best coondogs and a long line of fine squirrel dogs.
Johnny Doil Williams was absolutely a blessed man. He is loved dearly by his family and friends and will be missed. His legacy will live on, and his memories will be cherished always.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, April 12th at Briarwood Baptist Church in Readhimer.
