Johnny D. Williams
September 19, 1943 – April 9, 2023

williamsJohnny Doil Williams, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Quitman, Louisiana on April 9, 2023.

Johnny was born on September 19. 1943 in Readheimer, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his father, Clois Williams, his mother, Izula Williams, sister, Lacy Laverne Davis and brother-in-law, J.R. Davis. Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Sue Williams of 56 years.

He is also survived by his brother Edward Williams and wife Ellen. Daughter, Leesa Futrell and husband Marty, son John Williams and wife Crystal, nine grandchildren, Johnathon Futrell and wife Kelly, Trent Williams and wife Rachel, Landon Williams and wife Andrea, Nathan Futrell and wife Madelyn, Evan Williams, Seth Futrell and wife Tori, Alexia Williams, Duggan Hood and Bentley Hood. 12 great grandchildren, Thomas, Peyton, Natalie, Katie, Rosie, Daniel, David, Annie, Nora, Greyson, Jonah and Kate, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnny grew up in Readheimer, LA where he helped his Paw in the watermelon fields a little bit but played a lot. Johnny, his brother, sister and cousins and neighbors spent their childhood climbing trees, swimming in the creek, hunting the woods and roaming the countryside. At a very early age Johnny developed a love for hunting with a good dog. As most of you know, he never got over that.

After Johnny graduated high school, he helped his Paw and Uncle Doil with odd jobs like painting Saline School, hauling pulpwood, and even worked at the sawmill for a couple hours before deciding to go to trade school in Natchitoches Louisiana. He worked part time for Marion Smith at Smith’s Jewelry. In September 1966, he earned a certificate to be a watchmaker. He then began to work full-time for Mr. Smith.

In January of 1966, Johnny met the love of his life. He and Sue married on August 19, 1966. They started a lifelong journey together. Their daughter Leesa was born in April of 1968 and son John in September of 1970. After their children were born, Johnny and his family would attend a revival at Briarwood Baptist Church preached by Bro. Wayne Toms. It was during this revival that Johnny would surrender his life and Jesus Christ would become his personal Lord and Savior.

Johnny went on to raise his family, later opening Johnny’s Jewelry in Hodge, La., where he served for 54 years. He influenced so many people in 79 years of life. Countless memories were made doing what he loved- hunting with his family and friends, some of the best coondogs and a long line of fine squirrel dogs.

Johnny Doil Williams was absolutely a blessed man. He is loved dearly by his family and friends and will be missed. His legacy will live on, and his memories will be cherished always.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, April 12th at Briarwood Baptist Church in Readhimer. Honoring him as Pallbearers were his grandsons, Johnathon, Nathan and Seth Futrell, Trent, Landon and Evan Williams. Honorary Pallbearers were all of his hunting buddies. Interment followed at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Chestnut, LA under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro. 

David Ray Russell|
September 21, 1964 – April 11, 2023

russellDavid Ray Russell, age 58 of Chatham, was called home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. He was born on Monday, September 21, 1964 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to Clifford and Betty (Pool) Russell. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He was a man with a big heart and always had a helping hand to lend to anyone who needed it.

David leaves his siblings behind to cherish his memory, Billy Russell, Shelby Daffron, Jesse Russell and wife Chelsea, Deborah Johnson and husband Stacy, Mary McManus and husband Tim, Sandra Russell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Dewin and Betty Jean (Pool) Russell.

His family plans to hold a memorial service at a later date.

Steve Thrasher
February 22, 1972 – April 11, 2023

thasherMr. John Stephen Thrasher passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe. Mr. Thrasher was 51 years old. He will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. A complete obituary will be submitted on a later date.
