JP10U wins Little League Softball District 5 Championship

The rematch was no match. Jackson Parish sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 14 runs before the first out of the game was recorded on their way to an easy 20-5 victory over Sterlington. With their third straight victory in the tournament played at the Jackson Parish Recreation Department Sports Complex the JP10U girls clinched the Little League District 5 championship

JP10U got five hits, including a double by Hannah Aldy and a triple by Charleigh Newton, but that was all that was needed after taking advantage of 10 walks, 6 hit by pitches and 7 Sterlington errors.

The contest was in stark contrast to the game played between the two just one night before where Jackson Parish rallied from 6-0 and 7-3 deficits to take a drama filled win. This one was like a walk in the park. Or rather, it should be said a walk around the basepaths.

Aldy started the big inning off by drawing a walk and advanced to second when Kate Keiffer was hit by a pitch. Kynleigh Leach then walked to load the bases which brought up Amelia Staggs who reached first and got an RBI by (you guessed it) walking. Ryan Kate Wyatt and Ella Simonelli got the first hits of the game next, and Charleigh Newton reached on an error before Raleigh Guilliams became the second batter to get plunked in the inning.

The leisurely stroll around the bases continued when Sky Watkins became the fourth to coax a base on balls leading to Ryleigh McCormick being the third to get hit by a pitch that upped the lead to 6-0 with the bases still loaded. Three straight errors on balls hit by Elliot Savage, Scarlett Parks and Aldy, now batting for the second time in the inning, came next before Keiffer got hit AGAIN to up the lead to 12-0.

Three more walks to Leach, Staggs and Wyatt set the stage for a triple by Newton, who later scored on a passed ball for the 17th run of the inning. Everyone played a role as all twelve JP10U batters scored at least one run in the contest.

Adding to the complete domination by the locals, Wyatt was superb in the circle as she went the distance for the second game in a row allowing only two earned runs and striking out seven to record her third win of the tourney.
