School Board recognizes local 4-H members and Director Kristina Bourgeois

The Jackson Parish School Board held their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on August 7th with local 4-H members and Director Kristina Bourgeois along with District Test Coordinator, Amy Hay making presentations to highlight the activity.

The session opened with Jake Potts, leading the Pledge of Allegiance followed by he, Jana Potts, Alley Hines, and Easton Hall speaking to the board about their experiences at 4-H University and the National Shooting Sports Competition held earlier this year.

Hay was next to take the podium to discuss 2022-23 LEAP scores. Gerry Mims, Rick Barlow, Paulette Belton, Dennis Clary, Calvin Wagonner (President), Mary Saulters and Wade McBride were pleased to learn that for the third year in a row, Jackson Parish Schools showed an overall jump in test scores. 

In further action, bills owed from the General Fund, Federal Program, School Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education and District Maintenance areas were paid along with the Employer’s Share of Office of Group Benefits insurance premiums from General Fund for the September 2023 sales tax distribution.

The board then approved payment of $14,421.00 to Moby Max LLC for the renewal of the Moby Max District wide license for Grades K-8 curriculum at Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School, Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, Quitman High School and Weston High School, to be paid from 2023-2024 ESSERS III funds.

This was followed by the approval all salary schedules  and to pay Software and Services $22,500.00 for the renewal of the GFA licensing and support, to be paid from General Fund. No action was taken on changes to Business Manager’s Salary Schedule.

Discussion of stipends for nurses and Kristi Bass presenting the monthly financial report led to the board approving the following recommendations made by the Executive Finance and Policy Committees.  

(1) Accept low quote of $15,290.00 from Ronnie Potts for materials and labor to paint the exterior of the Central Office building, to be paid from Parish Wide District funds.(2) Revise BCBI policy: regarding public participation in School Board meetings.
(3) adopt new policy for teleconference/remote participation in School Board meetings
