Weston Junior High to host Basketball Tourney Thursday and Friday

There was a time in the past that when school started so did the varsity basketball season for the smaller high schools that didn’t play football. Those days are gone now as all LHSAA schools begin the varsity season at the same time, but that isn’t true for junior high programs. For them the “good old days”  are still here.

A prime example of “a blast from the past” is what is taking place this Thursday and Friday as Weston Junior High is hosting their annual season opening tournament. School started on Wednesday. Games are played on Thursday. For “roundball” fans – you gotta love it!

Actually, that can be said for any fan of local sports who would relish the opportunity to finally watch a sporting event without having to sit in the scorching sun that has been so prevalent this summer. Adding to the enjoyment of watching the “future of tomorrow” compete today is getting to be the first to enjoy the new seating that was put in place in the WHS gym over the summer.

First round games begin at 4:00pm on Thursday with the Quitman girls taking on Choudrant followed by the boys teams from the same two schools playing. At 5:30pm host Weston will play Dodson in a girls game with the boys teams concluding the action immediately after.

The time frames of games are the same on Friday.  The winner of Choudrant/Quitman will play Saline girls and boys at 4:00 pm and 4:45 pm and the Castor girls and boys will play the winner of Weston/Dodson at 5:30 & 6:15 pm. The championship game for the girls is set for 7:00pm on Friday with the boys playing immediately after. Cost of admission is $5.00 per person.
