Shooting leaves two dead, one wounded

What started as a festive Friday evening turned into an incomprehensible tragedy early Saturday morning as three separate shootings left two men dead and a woman wounded.

Shots were fired in the parking lot of the Circle K convenience store in Jonesboro that led to the death of Bre’Untae Hicks, the 27-year old son of JHHS head football coach Terrance Blankenship and wife Jackie. Shortly after, Dee Jackson was shot and killed and an unidentified woman was wounded while driving along Hwy 167 north of Hodge. 

The Jackson Parish Sheriff Office issued the following statement on Saturday.

The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently working on two separate homicides.
At approximately 11:40pm the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about shots being fired at the Circle K in the City Limits of Jonesboro.

Jonesboro City Police arrived on scene along with Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Deputies. Arriving units found one male subject who had been shot. Jackson Parish Ambulance Service transported the victim to Jackson Parish Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Jonesboro City Police requested the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office to work on the homicide.

At approximately 1:35am, the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office received another 911 call about another shooting that occurred going down US 167 between North Hodge and Quitman. The driver of the vehicle was shot while driving down the road, and the front seat passenger was also hit by a bullet. By the time that first responders and Deputies arrived on the scene, the driver had succumbed to his injuries and the passenger was transported by the Jackson Parish Ambulance Service and Pafford Air One to a Trauma Center to be treated for their gunshot wound.

Investigators with the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office are diligently working on both cases.
