Pullig powers QJH softball to impressive “DeSoto Double Dip” on Monday

Quitman Jr. High has already proven they can beat teams from Jackson, Lincoln and Webster parishes this fall. Now you can add DeSoto Parish to the list as well after the Lady Wolverines took games against Stanley and Logansport Jr. High on Monday, October 23rd.

The “DeSoto double dip” got started with Quitman first beating Stanley 9-6 followed by a 13-1 lashing of Logansport, who was hosting the round robin event. With the two victories, the Lady Wolverines improved to 6-1 in the fall ball season, the only loss being a 6th/7th grade contest against Lakeside.

Quitman 9 Stanley 6: Hallie Kate Pullig turned in the most impressive power demonstration seen locally this fall with a home run and a pair of triples in three at bats, that accounted for 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Kinsley Ponder also came up big with three hits and three RBI while both Avery Watson and London Burks got two hits and scored a run. Briley Bowers, Brenna Lamkin, Charleigh Newton, and Kynleigh Leach scored a run and added a hit each with Emma Toms gaining a hit to round out the 15 hits pounded out by Quitman.  Lamkin picked up her 3rd win in as many starts.

Quitman 13 Logansport 1: Briley Bowers open the game with an inside the park home run that prompted host Logansport to want no further part of the Lady Wolverines bats, so instead they tried to get cute. The result was that QJH got only three more hits the rest of the way but got 16 free passes via 10 walks and six more that reached base due to getting hit in the four inning affair.

Just as impressive as their keen eye at the plate that allowed Quitman to walk to first base was the way they ran their way around the rest of them to the tune 16 stolen bases led by four from Bella Caskey, who also scored two runs, and three more by Kynleigh Leach. Charleigh Newton also scored two runs as did Anna Pardue while Bowers, Emma Toms, Avery Watson, Emma Simonelli, London Burks, Kynleigh Leach and Breelyn Boone crossed home once each. First game hitting star, Hallie Kate Pullig walked in both of her plate appearances giving her a perfect offensive day by never getting out in her five at bats over the two games. Kinsley Ponder and Brenna Lamkin also walked once in their only at bat as every Quitman player reached base at least once. Bowers pitched three innings of no hit ball and struck out nine to take the victory. Amelia Staggs pitched the final inning striking out three.
