Quitman sweeps Saline on Tuesday

Quitman made a pair of three pointers early in the fourth period and made 10 of 16 free throws down the stretch to stem a spirited Saline rally to take a 53-45 victory and remain undefeated after four games. Saline fell to 1-3 after the contest that was played in Quitman on Tuesday. Brayden Smith led the Wolverines with 13 points, including 9 in the pivotal final frame. Riley Duck added 11, Logan Ponder 7 and Gavyn Caskey six on a pair of threes. Eli Ferguson scored 16 to lead Saline followed by 10 from Maddox Williams and 8 from Trent Ledbetter. 

Quitman 39 Saline 34 (Girls): Anna Leach scored 10 of her game high 20 points in the pivotal second quarter to help pace the Lady Wolverines to the hard fought win. Saline led 9-6 heading into the second quarter but the full court pressure defense dialed up by QHS head coach Kyle Leach turned the tide to give Quitman a 17-12 lead that they never relinquished. 

Quitman 66 Claiborne Christian 39 (boys) Logan Ponder and Eli Walker drained a pair of threes each in the third quarter that saw Quitman stretch an 8 point halftime lead into a commanding 58-29 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Ponder woud pour in a season high 27 points to lead the Wolverines with Eli Walker scoring 15 and Noah Leach adding 10. 

Claiborne Christian 39 Quitman 38 (girls): The Lady Wolverines outscored Claiborne Christian 17-10 in the final period but slow starts to the first and third quarter was to much to overcome. Cali Deal scored 21 to lead Quitman.

Quitman 50 Dodson 5: Logan Ponder scored all 19 of his game high points in the first half as 11 players scored for the Wolverines in the blowout. Quitman allowed only a basket in the first quarter and a three pointer in the third to cruise to the season opening victory. 

Quitman 59 Dodson 18 (girls) The Lady Panthers scored 14 points in the first quarter but Quitman allowed only 4 more the rest of the way to pull away for the easy victory. Jaleigh Burns poured in a season high 12 points followed by Maggie Cheatwood with 10, AJ Gray with 8 and Lanee Cheatwood with 7 in the season opening victory.
