Weston Girls celebrate Homecoming with win over Choudrant

Unwilling to be denied the enjoyment of winning on Homecoming, the Lady Wolves outscored Choudrant 15-2 in the final quarter to down Choudrant 51-36 and salvage a split of the two contests. On a night that found Weston hitting only 14 of 58 shots for a 24% field goal percentage a player who isn’t old enough to qualify for a spot on the Homecoming Court led the Lady Wolves to the victory on the basketball court. Carly Jo Griffin, who is only in the 8th grade scored a team high 13 points, and more importantly the first five points of the final frame that began with Weston leading by only a 36-34 margin. Lexie Millien also came up big by making 7 of 8 free throws including four charity shots down the stretch to finish with nine points while also adding 8 rebounds and five steals, both team highs. Laniee Trosclair had eight points, Anslee Aldy 7,  and another 8th grader, Carlynn Waters, scored six points. Jacie Ledford finished with five, Nadia Siadek two and Raelynn Shell one to help lift Weston to 7-4 on the year.

Choudrant 71 Weston 46 (boys): In the back and forth contest that had eight lead changes, Choudrant pulled away thanks to a 10-0 run late in the contest to defeat the Wolves for a second time this season. Shooting woes continued to plague the Wolves who made only 18 of 62 shots for a 29% field goal average and 4 of 18 (14%) from behind the arc. Bryce Zehr led Weston with 14 points followed by Tyler Pardue, Tommy Walker and Tait Henderson with seven points each. Ethan Taylor scored three and Daniel Watlington, Nathan Wages and Juan Gonzalez all had two points apiece. 

Thursday Contests

Winnfield 53 Weston 40 (Girls) Homestanding Winnfield withstood a strong upset bid by Weston by outscoring the visitors 21-9 in the final frame. The loss was not all for naught though as the contest was the outcoming of 8th grader Carly Jo Griffin who poured in a career high 17 points  and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead Weston in both categories. Anslee Aldy and Lexie Millien chipped in with seven and Lainee Trosclair finished with four points. Nadia Siadek tallied three and Raelynn Shell scored two.

Winnfield 88 Weston 59 (boys) The Wolves shot 52% from the field and 55% from the three point line but Winnfield, the defending Division III state runner-ups,  exploded for 37 points in the third quarter to blow open the contest. Tait Henderson and Bryce Zehr did most of the damage for the Wolves with 15 and 14 points respectively. Tommy Walker also had a big night for Weston as he equaled his career high of 8 points and Daniel Watlington hit a pair of trey’s for six points. Brody Tidwell and Nathan Wages scored four, Ethan Taylor and  Lajavion Harris tallied three each and Jude Otwell made a basket to round out the Wolves scoring.
